Overview
As a government commissioned vessel for the head of state, mega yacht Abdul Aziz does not qualify as a privately owned motor yacht, but it is still one of the largest mega yachts in the world and the largest built in the 20th century. Abdul Aziz boasts a length of 482’3″. She was commissioned in 1983 in Denmark and fitted in 1984 for the late King Fahd of Saudi Arabia who named her after his son. She held the record of largest yacht for 20 years. In 2002, Abdul Aziz underwent a major interior overhaul during a refit in Greece.
Construction
It is rumored to have taken 15 months to complete the interior of motor yacht Abdul Aziz. Her builder was Helsingor Vaerft and her architect was Maierform.. She is equipped with two 12-cylinder Pielstick engines, 15382 HP each and is capable of a 22-knot cruise speed.
Features
Abdul Aziz is a secretive vessel, but her flat-top extended bow is long enough for a helipad. She is said to have an extensive garage for a number of speculative vehicles. She also comes equipped with security equipment, including an underwater surveillance system.
Owner
The mega yacht Abdul Aziz is owned by the Saudi royal family. She was commissioned for the late King Fahd of Saudi Arabia and is currently used for the state and personal affairs of Prince Abdul Aziz after whom the yacht is named.
