Overview
The mega yacht Dubai, formerly known under the project names Golden Star and Platinum, was the largest and most expensive mega yacht on the ocean in 2008. Dubai cannot necessarily be classified as a private yacht since she belongs to the head of state of Dubai, the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, and may be viewed as a government cruise ship. Dubai is an enormous mega yacht (531 ft) rumored to have cost over $300 million. She was launched in 2006.
Construction
The hull and superstructure of Dubai was built by German yacht engineering manufacturers Blohm & Voss and German designer Lurssen. Lurssen and Blohm & Voss shipyards built Platinum for Brunei’s Prince Jeffry, who sold her to Dubai before she was launched and her name changed. She features Twin Screw propulsion and a steel hull.
Features
Mega yacht Dubai is a secretive vessel, but rumor holds that her facilities include a barbeque area, disco, full-sized cinema, squash court, gymnasium, a helicopter pad, and a storage area for a submarine. Her interior was designed by Andrew Winch Designs Ltd.
Owner
Dubai was built for the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, ruler of Dubai.
